Survey of Metal Recycling Factory

A survey of a metal recycling factory was required to spatially locate structural and non structural materials by producing floor plans and sections of the foundries. Several key factors to consider on this project were:

  • The survey was to take place during working hours.
  • Health and safety concerns were moving vehicles and high temperatures due to furnaces.
  • Time was restricted due to the high production output of the factory.

Laser Scanning proved to be the perfect solution allowing for a short amount of time on site and improving the health and safety for the surveyor. This would also provide an extremely high level of detail to the profiles of the over head steels and roofing by generating a dense point cloud.

Survey of Converted Mill

For this project, we were required to produce detailed, external elevations of this old mill that was being converted into residential and commercial space. Given the size of the size and some access issues, Laser Scanning was the perfect solution for us.

Laser Scanning enabled us the collect all the data we needed within a day with 2 surveyors on site. Furthermore, all the data was collected remotely, reducing any risk for our Surveyors who otherwise might have needed to gain roof access or reach out of windows.

The result was this full colour, 3D pointcloud, from which we could produce 2D elevation plans in AutoCAD.
